Happy New Year! I hope 2012 is a good year for you all on the painting, gaming and blogging front.

On the afternoon of New Year's Day Craig and I had a six point Saga game with his Anglo-Danish versus my Vikings. We've both played a couple of games before, that have been fun and quite bloody, with only a few survivors remaining at the end. This proved to be the case again and the subtleties and ingenuity of the rule system, factions and battle boards were even more evident. You can have a plan in Saga but often your opponent's moves/dice or your own dice render this obsolete and you have to make do with the best of several poor options! Sometimes it is better just to rest and recover from fatigue...

The Vikings are one of the easier factions to play and simple aggression is often quite effective, so they advanced. The Anglo-Danish cannily sat back firing with their slingers and playing Intimidation and Trapped abilities repeatedly to frustrate the Viking advance. This was quite effective but eventually melees were fought between units with heavy casualties on both sides. The Anglo-Danish had the best of it up to this point and with larger units of six Thegns/hearthguard looked to have more stamina. Some lucky shooting and even luckier saves saw the Vikings turn things around and finally the Anglo-Danish Warlord was killed unable to use his resilience ability as he was on his own! Thanks to Craig for a fun game.

  7. Matt it's fun and pretty quick - two hours or so for a game. I think Craig might be running some demo games at Cancon.

    Cheers

  9. Hi Eric

They are fun and quite subtle as well. I think GB still have them in stock, they had problems with the dice for a while.

    Cheers
