Carthaginian Elephants

1st Corps Untrained Elephants

Gripping Beast left and Wargames Foundry right

Here are photos of some Carthaginian elephants, five of which I've just finished painting for our Command and Colors Ancients participation game of the Battle of Zama next weekend. This at the first Little Wars Canberra event on Sunday 8 November at the Vikings Club in Lanyon. More information about the event is on the Little Wars website:
http://www.tabletopwargaming.com/littlewars/. Hopefully there will be a good turn out for it!

The first pair of ellies are the massive resin beasts from 1st Corps which represent untrained African Forest Elephants (Loxodonta Africana cyclotis) but are a bit over the top in terms of size. The second set are by Gripping Beast and Wargames Foundry and are both really nice figures and crew. The Gripping Beast ellie is resin and a much better size and my favourite Carthaginian elephant model. The final pair are a small Relic Miniatures ellie with Hannibal on the back and another Gripping Beast model.

    1. Thanks Christopher, with CCA elephant rules they can be a real danger to their own side as well.

  9. Thanks Colin, the Relic one is quite small but probably more realistic, as you say, I think the African Forest elephants were not that big compared to Indian elephants.
